The Cardigan

Remember those grandpa tops that gave you nightmares about your geriatric days to come? Well you better find yourself one, because they are in. Of course, I'm talking about cardigans. They're not for old men of the AARP class anymore. They're for you. And you would do good to have a couple in your closet.

Cardigans have become so mainstream that even many hip-hop-ers  are stepping up their style game by with them. Take a look...

The thing about cardigans is that they're very versatile. They can be worn with a  leather jacket, sports jacket, blazer or shirt. They can also be worn on their own. GQ did an article late last year on cardigans featuring Mr. Hudson, check it out.

Here are a couple that I've see and liked:

Abercrombie and Fitch

Abercrombie and Fitch

As I said, these are just a couple. However, here are a few tips on selecting your cardigan: firstly, keep it simple. Unless you're Kanye West with Amber Rose on your arm, stick to muted colors - blue, black, gray. You could try a plain cream or white - that's as bright as you should go. Secondly, after you've selected coulour ensure that there aren't many logos or designs on the cardigan. Stay away from the Ed Hrady look. Less is more. Remember, keep it simple.

Revenge of the Nerds

No matter where in the world you went to high-school they were there, the nerds. You made fun of the brainy attitude and their geeky attire. But now, the Nerds have flip the script. And fashion seems to be following them.

Back in the day, the main article that defined "Nerdom" was the glasses. Those pairs of black, plastic-framed eye-wear. However, these days they are must-have fashion accessory for men. Eyeglasses are like footwear for your face - a good pair will get you noticed, and possibly laid. And the celebrities and many of the fashion world's alpha males, have taken the cue...

See, looks good, doesn't it. But, as with any good pair of shoe, it's all about the fit. GQ offers the following tip : "your glasses should be about the wide as your face - no wider, no narrower. And the top of your frames should hit your eyebrows." With that in mind, get yourself a pair and say thanks to Buddy Holly. And the nerds.

Common Projects - Spring/Summer 2010

The Common Projects brand never seems to disappoint. Their sneakers, especially the low-cut ones, are sleek and smooth. Colors and patterns are very simple and easy to love. They fit well with anything from jeans to slacks. It is this versatility that makes this brand of sneakers so.......so.......cool. These are definitely a must-have.

Music Icon: John Mayer

Now I know the present controversy about his racially insensitive remarks in his Playboy interview, however this is one of my favourite artists. The guy is a conceited as hell and kinda sees himself, as, well, the one. Guess this would sort of explain but not excuse his behaviour. However, attitude aside, he's a remarkable artiste.

His recent album Heartbreak Warfare is one of the best I've ever heard. It's soulful and very easy to listen to. He sings about breaking hearts and getting his heart broken. Songs such as "Perfectly Lonely", "Assassin", "Half of My Heart" and "Edge of Desire" will get you going and soothe you at the same time. The tracks are really easy to listen. John Mayer is a briliant musical talent.

Kid Cudi 'Most Stylish New Yorkers'

This artist has brought and entirely new face to hip-hop- by both dress and music. Changing greatly the whole 'Hoes' and Bling' mentality. Also, he has company in the form of Drake and Wale. Matter fact GQ did an article on them. Here he was chosen as one of the 'Most Stylish New Yorkers' by http://www.newyork.timeout.com . He's also gonna be having a new fashion 'dramedy' on HBO named How To Make It i In America. Check it out.

Sense of Certainty

These pictures seem to capture the subjects within them. You can see that they're sure of themselves. They know who they are and are comfortable with that. This is the essence of style, that definite confidence, that Certainty.

The Cool...

Everyone has a sense of fashion. Even if some try to make it appear that they don't. It is true that sometimes that 'sense' can appear to be a bit warped but that is what makes fashion interesting - variety. The thing about fashion is that it is as perennial as it is contemporary.

A good dresser knows how to wear his clothes and not have the articles wear him. He knows how to let his personality shine through his garments. In other words, he knows how to find his Cool. Here are some items the will forever exude a sense of 'Cool'.

First we have the Converse canvas sneakers. Classic.

Next up Ray-Ban Wayfarers...

From Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's to Tom Cruise in Risky Business and to just about everyone else, these sunglasses are just simple elegance personified.

The white V-Neck. This is an undeniable essential. It goes with just about anything.

These are just a couple timeless pieces. Keep on reading this blog to find more of the 'Cool'.....
